Migrant Workers in Southeast Asia Need Stronger Protection

Migrant workers represent one of the most vulnerable and disenfranchised groups in the world. Recognizing this acute vulnerability, in 1990 the UN General Assembly adopted the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (ICRMW). In the 20 years since, while some progress has been made to strengthen the protection regime at various levels, in practice, migrant workers remain largely unprotected. This is especially the case in the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region, where the Convention has been ratified by only one country (the Philippines) and signed by just two others (Cambodia and Indonesia).

让男性杜绝暴力 - Engaging Men and Boys in Ending Violence against Women and Girls

Globally, 30% of women suffer physical violence at least once from a male partner, and in multi-country studies done by the UN, nearly 20% of women say that their first sexual experience was forced.

 

全球30％的女性至少遭受过一次来自男性伴侣的暴力。联合国开展的多国研究表明，将近20％的女性声称她们的第一次性经历是在被迫的情况下发生。

 

Violence against women and girls is a gross violation of human rights. It is both a consequence and a cause of women's social, economic, cultural and political disempowerment and marginalization.

 

针对女性的暴力是对人权的粗暴践踏，这是女性在社会、经济、文化和政治上的弱势地位及边缘化导致的结果，也是这一现象出现的原因。

Give Everyone the Right to Affordable Medicines

The high cost of medicines essential for the prevention, treatment and cure of many diseases makes them inaccessible to millions of patients who need them. The World Health Organization estimates this to include a third of the world's population. In parts of Asia, the percentage may be even higher.

One of the key factors making medicines unaffordable is the current intellectual property right (IPR) regime and its prominent place in many free trade agreements. There is a dire need to reform the current international trade framework in order to provide correct and adequate incentives that can lead to need-based medical innovations and that can ensure that public health is prioritized over commercial interests.
