Asia Catalyst

Short-Term Coaching

Our short-term coaching program focuses on intensive coaching in one specific organizational management skill that will strengthen nonprofit operations and build a stable base for future growth.

Asia Catalyst accepts applications each November. We view the application process as the beginning of the open conversation necessary to identify partner needs. All information gathered in this process will be kept strictly confidential.

The coaching program lasts 3-6 months. During this time, we work with the nonprofit director and the core team of staff or volunteers to develop a specific skill. This includes two to three short field visits, with weekly or biweekly phone calls to follow up.

If you wish to receive alerts when we issue a call for applications, please email info@asiacatalyst.org. Please indicate your language preference (Chinese or English). This program is open to groups that:

  • Are based in the People's Republic of China
  • Have been existence for no more than five years
  • Have a core team of staff or volunteers routinely engaged in the work
  • Have a documented record of working on health rights

Organizations are not required to be legally registered, but must have a record of successfully managing grant funds.

Applications for 2011 are closed. Check back in for our 2012 application deadline.

Nonprofit Leadership Cohort

In 2011, Asia Catalyst launched the Nonprofit Leadership Cohort program in China. A group of ten health rights nonprofit groups take part in quarterly trainings over one year with peer support and coaching sessions in between trainings. Skills covered in our curriculum include meeting facilitation, strategic planning, volunteer management, and policy advocacy. We use a combination of role-play exercises and small group work to put lessons into practice. Participants are encouraged to assist and learn from each other during the implementation phases in between each workshop.

A few will have the option to continue on in the second one-year cohort as assistant trainers, and take a certification exam at the end of the second year to qualify to start their own cohorts using our curriculum.

Applications for 2011 are closed. Check back in for our 2012 application deadline.

Rights Training Program

Organizations that already have a stable management system in place, or that have previously partnered with us in either our cohort or coaching programs, can apply to receive one-on-one coaching assistance in rights documentation and advocacy while they conduct research, gather testimony, and plan and implement an advocacy campaign.

Our Rights Training Program uses the Know It, Prove It, Change It curriculum to train a small group of staff or volunteers in research skills, including rights analysis, research planning, report-writing, and advocacy planning. The program is open to groups that:

  • Are based anywhere in East or Southeast Asia
  • Have been existence for no more than five years
  • Have a core team of staff or volunteers
  • Have a stable management system in place
  • Have a documented record of doing successful advocacy on health rights

In some cases, our ability to provide coaching may be dependent on raising funds to cover project expenses.
