New York, New York – April 1, 2013-

Asia Catalyst, Thai AIDS Treatment Action Group (TTAG) and Dongjen Center for Human Rights Education are pleased to announce the publication of Change It: Ending Rights Abuses, the final volume in their three-part curriculum of human rights manuals for grassroots groups from HIV/AIDS-affected communities.Change It, which was developed in consultation with grassroots groups in Asia, provides definitions of key terms used in the field, case studies of creative advocacy initiatives, and teaches groups to plan and execute successful advocacy campaigns.

Wang Baoyi from the China HIV/AIDS Community-Based Organization Network, a network of more than 120 organizations working on HIV/AIDS in China, said: “In China, AIDS NGOs have been working mainly on service delivery, but now many of us are starting to conduct advocacy. We strongly feel that we need to be more strategic in conducting advocacy. Change It came at the right time and I think many Chinese groups will benefit from it.”

The publication of Change It marks the completion of the three-part curriculum Know It, Prove It, Change It: A Rights Curriculum for Grassroots Groups. The series helps grassroots groups understand their basic rights, and explains how to document abuses and advocate for change at the local, national and global levels.

“Now grassroots activists have a full range of rights documentation and advocacy tools, based on their own lives and experiences, to fight back against injustices they face on a daily basis. I believe this curriculum will help empower communities for generations to come,” said Karyn Kaplan of TTAG.

The digital version of Change It in English is available here. The printed English volume, and Chinese, Thai and Burmese translations will follow later in 2013.  The first two volumes of the curriculum, Know It: The Rights Framework and Prove It: Documenting Rights Abuse, are also available online for free download in English, Chinese and Thai here: https://asiacatalyst.org/news/kipici.html.
