The American Foundation for AIDS Research’s TREAT Asia features an interview with Shiba Phurailatpam, director of the Asia Pacific Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (APN+).


Mr. Phurailatpam discusses how free trade agreements proposed by the U.S. and E.U. may undermine access to generic medicines, thereby threatening Asia’s AIDS response.  He also explains how the current funding crisis, including the cancellation of Global Fund Round 11, is impacting HIV/AIDS programs across the region.

He notes that “It is encouraging that the Chinese government has announced that it will fill the [funding] gap itself, but there is concern that funding priorities in the country may change without the influence of an independent, neutral funding source.”
